PROGRAM
09:00–09:20 (practical): Pre-Mycopathology Brainstorm
Participants will receive a set of histological slides and a questionnaire (“test sheet”) with multiple-choice answers. Individually, using a microscope, each participant will attempt to determine the animal species from which the tissue (skin) originates (dog, cat, or human) and identify the causative agent of the lesion (a list of possible etiologic agents will be provided).
09:20–09:40 (theoretical): Basic histological morphological features of the main agents of fungal skin diseases in humans, dogs, and cats.
Presentation of images and description of the microscopic morphological features of the main fungal agents causing skin diseases in humans, cats, and dogs, as well as other infectious agents considered important differential diagnoses.
09:40–10:15 (theoretical): Clinicopathological correlation
Presentation of clinical cases in dogs, cats, and humans, including clinical and histopathological images. Together with participants, correlations will be made between clinical presentation and microscopic findings, as well as determination of the most likely final diagnosis and possible differential diagnoses.
10:15–10:30 Coffee break
10:30–11:30 (theoretical): Clinicopathological correlation
Continuation of clinical case presentations in dogs, cats, and humans, with discussion of clinicopathological correlation and differential diagnoses.
11:30–12:00 (practical): Post-Mycopathology Brainstorm
Participants will again receive the same histological slides and “test sheet.” Correct answers will be revealed, allowing participants to assess their progress in the histological recognition of the diseases discussed during the workshop.
What to expect?
An immersive experience integrating practice and theory in mycological dermatopathology, including histological slide analysis, discussion of real cases, and clinicopathological correlation in humans and animals.
Why participate?
To improve histopathological recognition of fungal skin diseases, develop diagnostic reasoning, and strengthen the integration between clinical and microscopic findings.
This is a unique opportunity to:
Practice microscopic slide interpretation
Learn from real cases and guided discussion
Compare diseases in humans, dogs, and cats, and
Consolidate diagnostic reasoning in dermatopathology
